Yogasthah Kuru Karmani

Yogasthah Kuru Karmani means, first establish your way of being – then act. First your dharma – then your karma. Now you create too much karma without knowing your dharma – this is the problem.

In the Bhagavad Gita, one of the most famous scriptures on yoga, Krishna shares with Arjuna a deeply profound message. He says “Yogastha kuru karmani” meaning "Establish yourself in yoga and then act." He is referring to the need for us to arrive to the state of unity, here and now. We can’t keep waiting for some future moment in order for us to experience yoga. The state of yoga is the state of unity. It is about us moving from an isolated point of awareness, floating around in an infinitely vast universe, feeling disjointed, to a deep state of unity with all that is.

Krishna is inviting us to arrive to that deep state of union within ourselves, that deep place where yoga lives and then act from there, as the action which has the backing of yoga, the backing of love, of connection, has a profound power of transformation. A wave which rises from the great depth of the ocean has supreme power, it can wipe out anything in its path; it stands the test of time. On the contrary, the waves which rise from the surface value of the ocean collapse easily.

So, it’s important for us not to wait anymore. We must make contact with that deeper part of ourselves, with that deep place of love, and experience that unity.

But, how do we do that?

If you start to pay attention to that silent space and you maintain this, you’ll find yourself to be in a state of deep union, a deep state of peace. So, pay attention to the silence now. Allow it to rise up within you, to fill you up. Arrive to that deep state of silence, that deep fearlessness, and then act from that place. Let love be the driver.

Any action which is arising from fear will lead to destruction, but action which is arising from a deep knowingness of your own invincible nature, a deep knowingness of the fundamental underlying love that permeates the entire universe, will be transformative.

Irrespective of where you are now, within you, there is yoga, as yoga is not primarily something we do, but a state of being. This state of being is always available to you in the here and the now. It’s never going to be available in any other time, as any other time is nothing but a thought. The only moment you will ever experience is here and now. And this yoga, the state of being of your true nature, lives within your own silence, within your own being. So, the only way out is in.

It doesn’t matter what your history is.

It doesn’t matter what you are afraid of in the future.

It doesn’t matter what your storyline is.

It doesn’t matter whether you have succeeded or failed.

It doesn’t matter what the world thinks of you.

It doesn’t matter what you know or what you don’t know.

It doesn’t matter how much pain you carry inside you.

It doesn’t matter what you think of yourself.

It doesn’t matter what unfulfilled desires or unhealed wounds you have.

Irrespective of all that is going on, the fundamental fact remains that in the here and now, within the great sanctity of your being, is yoga, unity.

Your fundamental nature is yoga, a unified being arising from the unified field.

You are It and It is You. Make contact with that truth. Experience that unity.

Establish yourself in yoga and then act.
