Azadi Ka Mahotsav - 75th Independence Day

In just a few days from now India is gearing up for its Independence Day which is 75th year of Independence Day on August 15 (Monday). Independence Day marks the day when India became free from British rule.

The flag is hoisted on Independence Day from the bottom of the flag post to the top to mark the country's independence from British rule. The national flag of India, colloquially called the Tricolour, is a horizontal rectangular tricolour flag of India saffron, white, and green stripes of the flag of India represent distinct values of the country. They are said to stand for, respectively, Saffron is for Courage and Sacrifice, White is for Peace and Truth, and Green is for Faith and Chivalry. The design of the flag of India was created by Pingali Venkayya garu.

Mahatma Gandhi had once stressed why India should have its own flag and had said, "A flag is a necessity for all nations. Millions have died for it. It is no doubt a kind of idolatry which would be a sin to destroy. It will be necessary for us Indians Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jews, Parsis and all others to whom India is their home-to recognizes a common flag to live and to die for."

It is a solemn patriotic song which is officially taken by a country as an expression of national identity. The National Anthem of India, “Jana Gana Mana”, was written by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The rhythm in which we sing the national anthem today was composed in Madanapalli, a small district in Andhra Pradesh. The song showcases the national heritage of India and exhibits patriotism, pride and national allegiance. It acts as a catalyst to the feeling of national pride.

The underlying meaning of our National Anthem is pluralism. It talks about the differences of culture, creed, caste and religion and the feeling of unity which lie inside every Indian.
