Childcare in the COVID-19 times

Keep routine for children so they don't get unsettled

Children may respond to stress in different ways like being clingy, anxious, showing withdrawal symptoms, being angry or agitated. Respond to your child’s reactions in a supportive way. Listen to their concerns and give them extra love and attention. It is important to educate and train children to report symptoms like common flu, cough, fever, and soar throat.

Create a schedule and help children continue learning at home, but remain flexible. Structure the day for learning, free time, healthy meals and snacks, and physical activity. It is also important for kids to have consistent sleep and wake up times.

Educate children about what happened and explain what is going on now and give them clear information about how to reduce human contact and stay isolated.

Keeping your children active is as important as keeping them mentally stimulated

Have hands-on activities, like puzzles, painting, drawing, and making things.

Independent play can also be used in place of structured learning. Encourage children to build a fort from sheets or practice counting by stacking blocks.

Practice handwriting and grammar by writing letters to family members. This is a great way to connect and limit face-to-face contact.

Start a journal with your child to document this time and discuss the shared experience. Help children to write cards and letters to family members they may not be able to visit.

Keep your child engaged with listening activity through audiobooks and podcasts or by working with virtual libraries.

It’s important to make sure that an adult is supervising children at all times

Cleanse hands often using soap and water or hand sanitizer for a minimum period of 20 seconds. Encourage children to sing the “Happy Birthday” song, which runs through the duration.

Educate your child to stay away from people who are sick, cough and running nose.

Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces daily in household common areas such as doorknobs, switches, remotes, handles, toilets, and sinks.
