Id ul Zuha Festival and its Importance

Muslims of the world generally celebrating two festivals, Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adh’ha. Eid ul Fitr is the celebration of ending of one month Ramadhan fasting. It is the first day of Arabic month Shawwal.Bakrid or Eid ul Adh'ha is the festival of the mark of Hajj pilgrimage ,which is 10th of Dhul Hajj. On this day Muslims offering animal sacrifice. Hence Eid ul Adh'ha also known as Bakrid.

This festival marks the event that happens between Allah and Prophet Ibrahim, where Allah orders him to sacrifice his son, Ismail and tests the faith and respect of Prophet Ibrahim.

One of the major events that occur during this festival is the offering of domestic animals such as camels, sheep, and goats as the sacrifice in remembrance of the act done by Prophet Ibrahim. Thus this festival is also known as Bakrid. The act of sacrificing the domestic animals is known as “qurbani”.

During this festival, a portion of the sacrificed animal is distributed to the homeless and the less fortunate people as a sign of unity and care to humanity. Special prayers known as dua are also chanted during this festival mainly during the sacrificing of the animals. This festival is also known as the festival of Sacrifice and is celebrated to bring peace and prosperity to all.

Another major event of this festival is that it is celebrated at the end of the Hajj season when the Muslim pilgrims visit Mecca and Medina to wash away their sins.
