According to an article published in Chikitsa, an Indian Ayurvedic magazine, the first test tube babies were created in India 7,500 years ago and the first person to be born that way is Dronacharya, s/o Bharadwaja. And the story goes here, Once Bharadhwaja went to bathe in the Ganges, where he met a beautiful apsara named Ghritachi, who was bathing in the waters of a sacred river. At the sight of the apsara, Bharadhvaja ejaculated, collecting the seed in a vessel. Inside it, a child developed who was named Drona. Name Drona translates as a vessel or born in a vessel, as according to legend he was born not from a woman’s womb, but from a vessel (earthen Pot).
Concept of test tube baby is also found in the birth of Lord Balarama. An embryo of Devaki was taken out and implanted in the uterus of Rohini. Balarama took birth after two months from Rohini on the day of Shravan Purnima. He was called Sankarshan as he was extracted from others womb.
There is a very interesting story related to Kauravas too. So the question arises that how Gandhari, the mother of Kauravas, could give birth to a 100 children. Everybody wonders and nobody believes, how come Gandhari gave birth to 100 children. How is it humanly possible? Can a woman give birth to 100 children in one lifetime?
On the basis of popular stories, once pleased with Gandhari’s service, sage Vyas gave Gandhari a boon. Sage Vyas had blessed Gandhari to be the mother of 100 sons. After this Gandhari became pregnant, but it is said that Gandhari remained pregnant for two years instead of 9 months. After this she gave birth to a piece of meat i.e. Gandhari did not have a single child. After this, Rishi Vyas himself divided this piece of meat into 101 parts and kept it in different pots.
But now we believe we have test tube babies. Stem cell research in this country was present thousands of years ago. Today, we speak about stem cell research. We had hundreds of Kauravas from one mother because of stem cell research and test tube baby technology. It happened a few thousand years ago. This was science in this country. It clearly shows that the roots of Purana’s are associated with Modern Science.
