Blackle is a front-end to Google that works exactly like Google, but with one difference: Its home page and its results pages are black. Why? To save the planet.
Blackle does everything a Google search engine, only difference it saves more energy by making its screen predominantly black. If its claim is true it will be the most environmentally friendly search engine in the web. The reason it saves more energy is a monitor requires more power to display a white or a light colored screen than a black or dark colored screen. This may not save too much power in an LCD screen because the LCD powers the screen consistently the same whatever image is displayed on the screen.Blackle creator Toby Heap said in his report, a PDF document, there are minor differences in the power consumed in the LCD, searching inBlackle will save energy also. He said the idea behind Blackle search engine is to remind the users to save energy every time they search the web.
