spinach chutney

Oil 2 tsp
Spinach 1 whole packet or two bunches
Tomato: 1
Green chillies 4 to 5
Seasoning ingredients:
Urad Dal and Chana dal(1/2 spoon each), Asafoetida: 2 pinches, Cumin, Mustard seeds1/2 tsp each.Turmeric 1/4 tsp
Tamarind Paste or Tamarind and salt According to taste


Heat the mentioned amount of oil in a pan, add the seasoning ingredients along with asafoetida till they splutter and turn into brown. Add gren chillies and fry a little. Add the tomato cut into small pieces. Let the tomato soften a bit, and add spinach (Cut into small pieces) and add turmeric. Cook until Spinach and tomato becomes soft, remove the heat and let it cool. After it cools, place in mixie adding tamarind or tamind paste and salt and grind to a chutney consistency. Place it in a bowl. In a seasoning vessel, heat 1/2 tsp of oil, and add mustard seeds to splutter and 10 leaves of curry leaves and after the curry leaves also splutter, add to the chutney.

Spinach is full of Iron. Tomato is also rich in Vitamin A. This variety of interesting combination tastes so delicious.


This chutney is suitable to eat with rice, idli or dosa. If anybody doesn't like to add tomato, they can simply do with Spinach only.
People can add Red chillies also instead of green chillies.
