This recipe uses a slow cooker. If you do not have a slow cooker you can cook this in a pressure cooker or normal pot. The time that it will take to cook this dish will vary significantly depending upon the choice.
Steps using a slow cooker:
Remove all ingredients from the packet and soak the lentils for 2 hours
In a pot heat oil
Add meat and fry for a minute before adding all the spice mix. Add ginger and garlic and fry well, add 1/4 cupe of water and keep on frying for another 6 to 7 minutes.
Transfer the fried meat with all the cooked spices to the slow cooker
Drain the water from the lentils and add soaked lentil mix to the slow cooker
Add 2 cups of hot water to the cooke, set it for 10 hours on medium heat, cover the lid and let it cook for the duration
After 10 hours the dish is ready
Garnish with fried onions, sliced ginger and fresh cilantro
Sprinkle a pinch or two of garam masala
Serve hot
Some of you may not have the time to wait for 10 hours so my suggesion will be to plan ahead and have everything ready. You can either set this up at night and the dish will be ready in the morning when you wake up or set this up early morning before leaving for work and the dish will be ready when you are back from work. Enjoy
