We indians living in UK, US or any part of the world start to forget the bad social practice like dowery which is still prevelent in India or may be among indians wherever they are. Parents adore their little girl, send her to school, teach her to be a good girl, then colege and university, comes out in flying colours, gets a decent job. now the parents start looking for a suitable match for her in their own Caste/community. The poor girl has no say in this at all, she can not express her feeling for someone she may love or want to love in future.
Its all done by parents and the family, every fortnight some one comes with the family to see her and then to reject as she is not as pretty as hema malini, and did you look at the guy, looked like old haggered sick chap. but no, girl can not say it.
Every time some one came for viewing she has to wear nice sari, talk softy and bring the tea tray to the guests.
and in the end some one liked her physical beauty, and then the families sat together, how much can you give?
Are aap bataeye, aap ka ladka hai.
the boy's father says shamelessly, das laakh, look your daughter is an average girl but my son likes her. The girls father replies so quickly that he chokes oh yes thats fine. das lakh, ten lacs. And she gets married to the guy who took money to marry her.
Thats how some of the girls are treated in india even today.
I wish every single indian girl should make a decision in shaping their future, marry some one who is gentle and will care for you not some one robs your father off to marry you.

very good, girl power must not be gotton. educate your daughters, teach them they are not less than a boy. give them best knowledge, courage, strength and best of all make them realise that they are worth it.
