Lot of people for vegetarians because their
nurture, meaning their family members, parents did not cook or eat meat in their house. Some people become vegetarains, for health reasons or by choice at a later stage in their life.
Even now, we see among couples one of them eat meat, and othe other is strict vegetarian. in my own family, my wife is a vegetarian, and I started eating meat, having come to US. I was a strict vegetarian, in India, coming from an orthodox Hindu family, specifically an Iyengar.
My mom freaked out, when she came to know, that i started eating and liking chicken and what not in the land of opportunity. I have come across many Indian couples, where wife is a strict vegetarian or husband is. In my house we do not cook, whatever I eat, I 'Eat Out' so to say.
In some household, the wife is tolerant enough, she cooks or let her betterhalf cook and conume meat at home.
Some vegetarians, or so orthodox, they do not even eat in a restaurant where they cook or handle meat. That is OK. Thank goodness, majority of vegetarians, do not mind eatin out, say in a restaurant, or fast food joint, wherein they serve both veg and non-veg dishes.
It is ironic, I was talking to one Sandwich shop owner in my town ( Plano Texas ), he had an item on the menu board, 'Vegetarian Steak'!. I asked him,'What is a vegetarian steak'? for, it sounded like an oxymoron to me, contradiction interms, vegetarian followed by Steak. He quickly responded, 'That is just some grilled vegetables in between a sub'. My next question was "Is it very popular, and do you sell a lot?".
"No man, do you know how many I sold in the last three months?".
No, tell me was my response in curiosity.
He said, just three in the last three
months.
