ABOUT THE AKSHAYA PATRA FOUNDATION

In India, millions of children suffer from extreme hunger resulting in limited education. The organization began feeding 1,500 children daily when it started in the year 2000. Akshaya Patra currently feeds over 1.75 million children in 14,125 government schools on a daily basis through a network of 38 ISO standard centralized kitchens in 12 states. The organization’s goal is to reach 5 million children every day by 2020.

STONEHAM, MA– The Dallas-Fort Worth Volunteer Chapter of Akshaya Patra Foundation USA, hosted it’s 10th Annual Benefit Gala on Saturday October 27, 2018.Dr. Nitin Nohria, the 10th Dean of Harvard Business School, served as the keynote speaker at the event. Akshaya Patra addresses childhood hunger and promotes education for under-served children in India with the mission that “no child should be deprived of an education due to hunger.”

Nearly 450 business, not-for-profit, government, and philanthropic leaders and members from around the region attended. This year’s event, held at the Courtyard Marriott in Grapevine, TX, featured an evening of networking and fund raising followed by dinner. Rajiv Satyal, the famous comedian, was the Emcee for the evening. Dean Nohria delivered an impactful message about the value of empathy, efficiency and effectiveness. The youth chapter of the organization presented Akshaya Patra’s vision in a unique ‘rap’ presentation to round out a very successful evening.

First time attendee, Namrita Notani, DMD says, “I felt inspired, amazed and humbled at the magnitude of the cause supported by Akshaya Patra; as well as with the incredibly talented and motivated people behind the organization. I have no doubt the organization will achieve it’s goals. I am grateful to be given the opportunity to make a positive and impactful difference in a child’s life.”

ABOUT DEAN NITIN NOHRIA

Dean Nitin Nohria is the 10th Dean of Harvard Business School and the George F. Baker Professor of Administration. He previously served as co-chair of the Leadership Initiative, Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Development, and head of the organizational behavior unit. Dean Nohria has taught courses across the School’s MBA, doctoral and Executive Education programs. His intellectual interests center on human motivation, leadership, corporate transformation and accountability, and sustainable economic and human performance. Dean Nohria is also the author of over 50 journal articles, book chapters, cases, working papers, and notes. He sits on the board of directors of Tata Sons and Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition, he serves as an advisor to the Piramal Group, on the advisory board of Akshaya Patra, and as a strategic advisor to Focusing Capital on the Long Term Global (FCLTGlobal). He has been interviewed by ABC, CNN, and NPR. He has been cited in Business Week, Economist, Financial Times, Fortune, New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
