Godhuma Ravva (cracked wheat) upma

Cracked wheat - 2 cups
Chick peas (whole kabuli Chana)
Red chillies - 2
Green chillies - 2
Seasoning - mustard, cumin, urad dal each 1/2 tsp
Dry coconut powder - 1 tbsp
Curry leaves - 1 tbsp
Salt and oil - according to taste
Coriander powder 1 tsp


Soak half medium-sized cup of kabuli Chana overnight(approximately 8 hrs). Cook it in a pressure cooker with 3 whistles. In a pan, add 1 1/2 tbsp of oil and heat it. Add the seasoning ingredients and splutter. Add the mentioned amount of dry coconut powder and fry until it becomes brown, and add curry leaves to splutter. Add double the amount of water to the amount of ravvva. Let the water boil and add already cooked Chana. When the water gets bubbled, add ravva to it and mix it well. Close the lid and cook for 5 to 8 minutes until the ravva becomes cooked. If desired, add more water and cook for some more time until the upma becomes softer. Lastly, add coriander powder and stir well. Decorate it with some cilantro. Coconut chutney and curd are best combinations to eat with this item.


Chana is an excellent source of protein. Breakfast containing a sufficient amount of protein can boost the energy whole day.
