Last week we featured five interesting places which you could visit and enjoy a spring picnic. Art Garden at the Trammell Crow Center
Sited in the heart of Downtown Dallas, the art garden features more than 20 beautiful artworks. All the works are installed at the ground level around the Trammell Crow Center. Featured are the works from French master craftsmen including Rodin. The sculptures are set amidst cascading waters falls and verdant gardens. The art garden is open from 10 am – 5 pm (Tuesday-Sunday). Call 214-979-6530 for details.

Meyerson Symphony Center
Sited in the heart of Downtown Dallas, the world-famous Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, offers free tours on selected Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Volunteer guided tours begin at 1 pm and take about an hour. The larger than life Herman W. Lay Family Organ is the centerpiece of the center. Built of 4,535 pipes, this $1.36 million organ, crafted by C.B. Fisk Inc., is acoustical wonder and one has to see to believe it! Once a month, schedule permitting, a thirty-minute organ demonstration of the Lay Family Concert Organ is presented, followed by a tour of the Center.

Free Admission Museums
Dallas has several museums and galleries, most of them charge an entry fee but there are some which are free. Donations are accepted. Check out the African American Museum (exception - special exhibitions) sited in the Fair Park neighborhood, open from 10 am to 5 pm on Satrudays and 1 pm to 5 pm on Sundays, this museum gives a rare insight into the African-American traditions, art and history. Another equally interesting museum is The Hall of State (exception - special exhibitions). Open from Mon - Sat 9 am - 5 pm and Sun 1 pm - 5 pm, this definitely merits a visit.

Abraham Lincoln – A story of persistence

Weekend is here and you are looking for something interesting to do. Here are five places in DFW which you could visit. While compiling this list we have taken into consideration of the tough economic situation. As such all these places are free to visit and enjoy. Take the opportunity and have a good time for free.
1. Texas Sculpture Garden, Frisco: Reportedly the largest private collection of contemporary sculpture ever assembled and made available to the public, absolutely free, Texas Sculpture Garden is a vast space of landscaped gardens sited just off the Dallas North Tollway. Over 120 pieces of modern art are exhibited in the open amidst lawns, water features, and walking trails.
2. Pioneer Plaza is a beautiful landscaped garden in Downtown Dallas. Sited contiguous to the Dallas Convention Center, the park spans 4.2 acres, the main draw here is the 40-odd bronzed sculptures of longhorn steers being herded down a small hillside. This is created as a memorial to the traditional cattle drive. The Trees and Parks Foundation inaugurated this plaza in 1995.
3. Crow Collection of Asian Art. Located in the Arts District of downtown Dallas, this is a permanent set of galleries dedicated to the arts and cultures of China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia. Beautiful and antiquated exhibits are on display in its various galleries. A visit to this museum would give an insight into the ancient Asian art and could be a great learning experience both for the kids as well as adults.
4. The Mustangs of Las Colinas, Irving. Located in the city of Irving, this is reportedly the largest equestrian sculptures in the world. This breathtakingly realistic work of art features nine wild mustangs running across a granite stream. Sited in the Williams Square Plaza, this is a wonderful family getaway. Pack your own lunch or visit any of the numerous Indian restaurants around the area. You could also spend time in the area walking along the Carolyn Lake or take a boat cruise along the Mandalay Canal.
5. Super Model Train. For those of us who spent a good amount of time in India before coming here, trains brings pleasant memories. Well Dallas has the country's largest permanent model train display; and happily, it's in the lobby of Children's Medical Center of Dallas. Eight trains run simultaneously at this free exhibit. There is a small fee for parking, but considering the nostalgic feeling we would enjoy looking at the exhibit it would be well worth it.


Weekend is almost here let us travel to a neighboring state. But before traveling let us know some interesting trivia and facts. Let us learn about Arizona, the right-to-work state.
1. Arizona became the 48th state on February 14, 1912.
2. The saguaro cactus blossom is the official state flower. The white flower blooms on the tips of the saguaro cactus during May and June. The saguaro is the largest American cactus.
3. Arizona is the largest producer of copper in the US.
4. Petrified wood is the official state fossil. Most petrified wood comes from the Petrified Forest in northeastern Arizona.

Beware of Rodents

This incident happened recently in North Texas. A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of coke which she put into the refrigerator of the boat, which she consumed during the day. On Monday she was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. She died on Wednesday.

The autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was traced to the can of coke she drank from, not using a glass. Tests showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine and which caused her the fatal disease of Leptospirosis. Rat urine contains toxic and potential fatal carcinogens.

To protect ourselves from these chemicals, wash the upper part of all soda cans thoroughly before drinking directly from them. The cans are typically stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned.

A recent study at NYCU showed that the tops of all soda cans are more contaminated than public toilets. The can tops were full of germs and bacteria. So wash them with water before putting them to the mouth to avoid any resulting infections.

Surviving A Heart Attack When Alone

Since many people are alone when they experience a cardiac arrest, it is important everyone knows these procedures on how to deal with a heart attack. If your heart is beating improperly and you begin to feel faint, remember you have only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. Here are some tips to help yourself:

You can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. This allows the heart attack victim to get to a hospital.

Tell as many people as possible about this. It could save their lives!!
