Being married into the defense services, one is often faced with days of separation due to our better halves performing their duties towards the nation. But after a decade of marital life, these separations are blessings in disguise. The space is relevant for ones growth and as they say distance makes hearts fonder.
Last few days have been complete bliss—which most wives will agree with me—as the station is completely devoid of officers who are away on an official tour. The glow of relief on their faces as they embarked the buses seemed like a naughty stag gathering! Just imagine—a station with no men—wow! What a feminine treat!
Ever since they willingly went life has been completely tension free! No scurrying off sleepily in the morning to cook up a breakfast for him! Arising lazily way after dawn, sipping tea with an aura of freedom is beyond explanation! Suddenly women are no longer at home—only maids and kids!!The market is brimming with us ladies making a beeline for the ATM and shopping malls and thereby emptying the husband’s bank accounts! Unfinished small feminine shopping is being done with bargaining galore—something that irks men most of all!!
No rushing home in time to receive him with a hot meal garnished with the latest gossip—instead potluck lunches in the sun and creating gossip itself is the scene these days! Left overs, Maggie and bread –eggs is the cuisine being had on the bed itself watching the mind boggling TV! It is such a treat to have the quilt to oneself and the TV remote too with no quarrels to watch cricket, news or K serials!!
With the schools yet to be opened the kids are on an undisciplined field and mothers like me have joined them too! Clad in night suit till late, unkempt appearance, erratic meal timings and just being simply out of routine and control is such fun—this is a holiday enough—one doesn’t need to go on a trip to enjoy—with husbands gone is enjoyment itself!!
But when the moon comes in the dark sky, the curtains are drawn and the chilly night envelops us around, I must admit one does feel something amiss.Especially after securing ourselves with three bolts—when a trifle of sound can be heard, fear does tend to creep in. It truly is an unexplainable feeling that one sleeps well and feels sort of secure with the man of the house around—not that they do anything extraordinarily macho—but the safe haven is there definitely.
Who says it’s a mans world—these days it’s a woman’s world with us as the bosses of our homes, with us taking important decisions and with us enjoying without our life partners! As they say necessity is the mother of invention—most of us who were dependant on hubby dears for little errands are doing so ourselves—car tyres are being changed, electric fuses are being repaired and bank bills are being paid too! Life is moving on teaching us how to be independent!
Soon they shall return with a splurge of love, shopping bags, more defense knowledge and plenty of stereotypes missing you lines! Till then many like me are basking in the glory of independence, no nagging, no discipline, and no perfect wives! Life can be bliss—even it’s just for few days! As once we are rejenuvated with shopping bills, latest in gossip and feasting our eyes on other men left behind, it would be great to welcome them back with new found gusto! Jut the opportunity to be ourselves and carefree like we were before we entered wedlock, is truly a cherished moment! Just being women is great—in a no man’s land!
Much as I hate to admit, their presence is truly missed these days but then missing is required if the kissing has to be more passionate—don’t you agree!?
